Can I vote for dark wicker baskets.... oh la la.. can your parents adopt me?

jennyg

I vote for some type of wicker baskets! What a great find!

Kim

Now, if it were me, it would go straight to my craft room and be filled with yarn and beautiful fabrics. however..in the kitchen? I'd do wicker baskets for sure. that is beautiful!

Joy Gross

Well it seems to me that it wouldnt look very good in your house at all... I really think you need to send it to me... and I will see how it looks here *grin*.

ok ok.. fine.. I would put baskets.

Sabrina

I think dark wicker baskets would look nice. But the cabinet hubby made for my kitchen (similar to that one) has concealed storage in the bottom behind curtains. I made a curtain "skirt" and attached it with velcro to the bottom of my cabinet. And it looks pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself. Just another thought to throw out there . . .

Jess Gordon

That is just beautiful!! Wicker baskets will look great in there. If it were in my kitchen I'd fill at least one shelf with cookbooks too - I have a ton of really pretty ones :).

Julie L.

I second everyone who loves the idea of dark brown wicker baskets! Your dad is so talented! Must run in your family ;) The cabinet is gorgeous!

I also can see a beautiful fall display with an old wooden rectangular milk-type crate full of gourds on the top shelf...:)

marsha

Hmmm. Could I play around with it in my kitchen for a while? That way I can try all the options!! LOL!! What a Gorgeous Cabinet!!! Dk brown wicker baskets on the bottom and Some cookbooks and a big rooster on the top shelf!!

Karen (makabe)

Ok... Maybe this is overly simplistic, but if it were going in my new kitchen, I'd probably have cookbooks on the bottom shelves. I might put a little curtain in front of them, though. That could look cute.

Michelle Goton-Bertuzzi

That is gorgeous! What a brilliant dad you have. Sorry Jen but china & wicker seems to be a contrast to me so I'd do 1 or 2 the most on wicker. I'm sure you have some vintage find that are cute but not too small that'd clutter the space & a few cookbooks on the side, a nice pair of bookends. Enjoy your week!

Kay

Gorgeous! I would make it a part of your master bathroom and use the bottom shelves for towels [rolled]and the top for your goodies and pretties. Also, a plant that trails on the top! I have an antique pressed tin pie safe that I use in our walk in closet for my table linen. I also have an antique bakers cabinet that is on our screen porch that we use to store our cooking stuff and table linen. I like to use furniture in unexpected places! If you use it in the kitchen-definately brown wicker baskets in the bottom! Let us know what you do and post a photo!

Sabrina

I think with your love of vintage fabric and the like that the idea someone had earlier would be perfect: vintage fabric, maybe attached on the inside, if possible and possibly swagged to a side? I'm sure whatever you do will be amazing!

Brittney

That is a gorgeous piece of furniture!! I think those old-fashioned dark wire baskets would give it a nice French-country feel if it's going in a kitchen, but dark wicker would also be lovely.

kelli :)

Ohhh I love this!!! Wow....

i think ALL of these ideas & suggestions are amazing. love the idea of cook books, fabric, wicker baskets....but my two cents would be to also incorporate wire baskets. This would make it more French Country, but thats my heart!

cant wait to see the finished product!!!

Amber

WOW. You are SO lucky to be able to just head to your parent's barn and hunt for some treasures!!! That is a gorgeous piece of furniture!
Here is my idea for the bottom shelves: I think it would look great if you placed two dark brown baskets on the bottom, then several large round glass canisters on the top shelf. Maybe 3? The kind of glass canister that has a glass lid with a little knob to lift it by. You could store dry goods in the canisters like rice, cereal, flour, sugar, etc. or even cookies. :) You could add a cute little tag to each canister with some twine or a ribbon. I think it would add extra character to this beautiful piece.
Let us know what you decide!

GORGEOUS Jenn! If in my kitchen, I'd probably put vintage kitchen containers that could re-purposed to hold things like cookie cutters or other gadgets, then some great cookbooks, and maybe a funkily colored kitchenaid, if it would fit.

Lucky you--share pics when it's all decked out! Hugs, Eva

While wicker baskets would be nice, I think they're a little "played out." I see a stack of colorful ceramic bowls and antique recipe books in the top space, one large basket on the bottom and some type of sculptural item - a rooster, maybe? I'm just a bit of a nut for kitchen clutter and baskets are too tidy for my tastes. ;)

Ashley

How fun to have such a fun piece to add to your home, sounds like you are getting lots of great ideas...for the kitchen I like the wicker, or wire, love the fabric skirt idea, a fun pitcher or mixing bowls, a rooster, cookbooks all sound great - it sort of depends on if you have "chili beans" pulling stuff off your shelves, as to what would work best.
Whatever you choose you must show us what you end up doing!

Rhonda D.

I haven't read through all the comments yet but I'd vote some wicker baskets, some antique Kitchen bowls, utensils, etc. And some cookbooks mixed in maybe?!

It is a beautiful hutch. I wish I could find goodies like that in my dad's barn.. ;)

Cara' Cottage

I love the idea of cookbooks, crocks with cookie cutters, baskets with linens, a bunch of mish-mash stuff would be oh-so-cute! Love it and wish I had it!

karen

Wow! AND your daddy made it! Lucky, lucky you! Your dad is a great craft's man with equally great taste!
I'd put wicker baskets in it so you can see everything neatly arranged from the top but can't peek thro to see the higgledy-piggedly mess at the bottom. :-)
